Matt Simms update

I had heard a lot of talk - both good and bad - about quarterback Matt Simms. The son of former Southern, Morehead State and New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, is a senior at Don Boscoe Prep in New Jersey and has already committed to Louisville.

I would love to see him this weekend play in Cincinnati but can't be there, so I was able to watch him last night in a game taped from last Friday against St. Joe's (Pa.) Academy.

Matt Simms didn't have a good game throwing, 10 of 20 for over 150 yards and a touchdown, but led his team to a come-from-behind 31-28 victory. He was playing with an injured left shoulder from a hit early in the game.

But I was really impressed with his moxie. He was hurting and you could tell that, but he stood in the pocket and took a couple of hits and actually made some nice passes in the latter part of the game. He's a kid who will benefit from a redshirt year but I could see him really turning into a solid QB at the college level. He certainly has the genes.

Oh and by the way, if you haven't seen him he looks just like his dad did when he was younger and is almost a twin to his older brother, Chris, who played at Texas and is now the starting quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
